Children & Families
Métis people recognize that our children are sacred gifts from our ancestors. They are the knowledge-keepers of tomorrow—carrying our culture, language, and heritage forward for generations to come.
We strive to uphold the traditional concept of Takaki Awasisiwin—"a good childhood"—to ensure the well-being and future of our people.

Education
Métis people recognize that for our children and youth to achieve educational success, they must see themselves reflected in the education system. This reflection begins in early learning—from kindergarten through grade three—and continues through secondary school and into post-secondary education.
Our learners thrive when their Métis culture, language, and heritage are acknowledged, respected, and meaningfully integrated into their educational experiences.
Here you can find multiple resources to support your children’s education.
-
Culture & Heritage
The Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language promotes and preserves Métis culture, heritage, and languages across BC. Through programs, resources, and education, it highlights Métis contributions, traditions, and the richness of Michif languages. The Ministry also supports cultural safety, visibility, and Michif revitalization through training, research, and advocacy—while providing cultural guidance to MNBC staff.

Health & Wellness
Recognizing and understanding who the Métis are helps create a more inclusive, welcoming community and healthcare system. When Métis identity is acknowledged and respected, it leads to better access to culturally appropriate programs and services—and supports a greater sense of belonging and wellness.
The Ministry of Health is committed to advocating for Métis citizens and ensuring services reflect Kaa-Wiichihitoyaahk—“we take care of each other.”

Housing Support
The Ministry of Housing & Homelessness at Métis Nation British Columbia is working to reduce Métis core housing needs in BC by 50% over five years. This includes identifying the unique housing needs of Métis citizens through research and engagement, developing culturally appropriate affordable housing, and delivering vital support programs for those most in need. MNBC is committed to ensuring every Métis person has a safe, affordable place to call home—honouring our seniors, supporting aging in place, and addressing homelessness with care and dignity.
